Fans of low scoring should be in for a treat this week as the PGA Tour moves on to Illinois for the John Deere Classic, which has seen an average winning score of 20.6 under par for the last five years.
TPC Deere Run offers up plenty of birdies and was the site of a 59 from Paul Goydos in 2010, while Jordan Spieth carded a 61 in the second round two years ago on his way to victory.
Ryan Moore is the defending champion after shooting 22 under par to win his fifth PGA Tour title by two shots from Ben Martin, Moore carding three straight 65s before closing out victory with a final round of 67.
And Moore is the first of our John Deere Classic betting tips at what could turn out to be generous odds of 33/1, the 34-year-old returning to action after several weeks out with a shoulder injury.
Moore was desperate to get fit in time to defend his title, telling a pre-tournament press conference: “As soon as we figured out there was something wrong it was, ‘Man, how do I get back here?’ Basically that was my focus.”
A lack of competitive golf is obviously a slight concern, but Moore was third in his first event of the season after a lengthy winter break and also has experience of successfully defending a title after winning the CIMB Classic in Malaysia in 2013 and 2014.
Staying near the top of the market, our next John Deere Classic selection is Brian Harman, who finished second in the US Open last month and followed that up with a tie for 35th in the Travelers Championship.
US Open form has worked out well with Tommy Fleetwood and Xander Schauffele – who were fourth and fifth respectively at Erin Hills – going on to win the French Open and Greenbrier Classic, while Harman also won his first PGA Tour title at Deere Run in 2014. He can be backed at 20/1.
Wesley Bryan missed the cut in the US Open and has finished 74th and 46th in his two starts since, but already has a win under his belt this season and was eighth in this event last year after sharing the halfway lead. He is the last of our John Deere Classic betting tips at 60/1.
