Despite the absence of Rory McIlroy and former winner Justin Rose, a strong field has assembled for this week’s Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour, with six of the world’s top 10 competing.
The home of 18-time major winner Jack Nicklaus and named after his favourite Open Championship venue, Muirfield Village is a par 72 which plays just under 7,400 yards and is regarded as a second-shot golf course.
With that in mind, it’s pleasing to see our first Memorial Tournament betting tip ranked third in strokes gained approaching the green, namely 11/1 joint-second favourite Jon Rahm.
Since turning professional less than a year ago, Rahm has claimed his first PGA Tour title and racked up a string of impressive performances, with his runners-up finish in the Dean and Deluca Invitational last week propelling him into the world’s top 10 for the first time.
The fact that Rahm is making his debut in the event is a slight negative, but the 22-year-old has been defying the odds at new courses almost every week and it is only a matter of time before he wins again.
Winning again has become something of an issue for our second Memorial betting selection Matt Kuchar, whose last PGA Tour title came back in 2014, although he did win in Fiji the following year.
However, Kuchar is also a past champion at Muirfield Village and has been his usual consistent self recently, following a tie for ninth in the Byron Nelson with a share of 12th at Colonial, where he shot 68, 67 over the weekend. He can be backed at 33/1.
Just behind Rahm in the strokes gained approaching the green category is third selection Kyle Stanley, who missed the cut last week but had previously finished fourth in the Players Championship.
Stanley is available at 100/1 and another player who performed well at Sawgrass is 125/1 outsider Lucas Glover, who was sixth in the Players to go with a tie for seventh in the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this season.
Glover has won just once since his surprise victory in the 2009 US Open but is tied sixth in par-four scoring average this season and is trending in the right direction.
