RBC Heritage: Fitzpatrick fancied to build on Masters showing

After the thrills and spills of the Masters, the PGA Tour heads from Georgia to South Carolina for this week’s RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links.

South Africa’s Branden Grace won his maiden title in the United States last year when a closing 67 saw him finish two shots ahead of Russell Knox and Luke Donald.

Donald had taken a one-shot lead into the final round but could only card a 71 and had to settle for a fourth runners-up finish in the event, his sixth top-three in 11 starts at the tight, tree-lined venue.

The former world number one has shot par or better in his last 29 rounds at Harbour Town and that may make odds of 33/1 seem generous, but he has shown precious little form this season and better value lies elsewhere in the RBC Heritage betting.

Fellow Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick is a shorter price than Donald at 25/1 but rates the venue as his favourite on the PGA Tour and comes into the week on the back of finishing 32nd in the Masters.

Fitzpatrick carded a superb opening 71 in tough conditions at Augusta and although he struggled to a 78 on Friday, a closing 70 could have been much better after starting with three straight birdies.

Also available at 25/1 is American Kevin Kisner, who finished just behind Fitzpatrick at the weekend and finished second in the Arnold Palmer Invitational in his previous strokeplay event. Kisner lost a play-off to Jim Furyk at Harbour Town in 2015 and is overdue a second PGA Tour win.

The last time I mentioned Brian Stuard was in recording that he had taken a triple-bogey seven on the first hole of the Masters, but he battled back from an opening 77 to make the cut and eventually finish tied 36th.

Stuard was fifth in this tournament back in 2014 and currently tops the driving accuracy statistics on the PGA Tour, so is our third RBC Heritage betting tip at odds of 100/1.

And last but not least for our RBC Heritage betting tips, another player ranked highly off the tee is Stuard’s fellow American William McGirt, who enjoyed an eventful Masters debut and would have finished just outside the top 10 if not for dropping three shots in the last three holes.

McGirt has recorded two top 10s in the last three years at Harbour Town and can be backed at 40/1.
